Fun(d) Run Mission Statement

Mission Statement

Our organization’s mission is to raise money for the benefit of children within District 112 who are financially unable to pay for enrichment programs that other children in the district can enjoy. Our goal is to expose these children to enriching opportunities in areas such as art, music, culture, and sports, knowing that these experiences will have a positive impact and may help shape a child’s future.

Program Description

The organization is comprised of parent representatives from all eleven schools in District 112 (elementary and middle schools) and one principal co-chair.  Since 2003, our group has raised money by organizing the Fun(d) Run & Walk, a 10K and 5K race and 1 mile walk, which is held in September in the Highland Park area.  There are two sources of revenues, the first of which is a registration fee collected from the race/walk participants.   The second source is through event sponsorship from the local business community, not-for-profit organizations, and individuals.

The money raised goes into a scholarship fund administered by the 112 Education Foundation and is ultimately distributed to children residing in Highland Park or Highwood. Scholarships are awarded to children of financial need (defined as those that qualify to participate in the federal free and reduced lunch program) so that they can participate in enrichment activities that are held at the schools.  Enrichment activities include school programs such as band and orchestra (instrument rental), summer school, outdoor education (a one day off-site team building field trip for junior high), and after school enrichment programs such as chess and art.
