“Firebird” Lands at Ravinia

All NSSD112 5th graders were treated to a performance by cellist Ian Maksin and the 5th House Orchestra who performed Stravinksy’s Firebird complete with narration & dancers at Bennett Gordon Hall as part of our partnership with Ravinia Festival and the Reach*Teach*Play program.

Sherwood Students Get Creative

Helen Weiss’s Foundation Grant allowed Sherwood’s 5th grade STEM/ Makerspace Club to work in groups to build electronic circuits with Little Bits kits and to make a banana piano and bongos using Makey Makey. “The kids loved it,” says Helen.

A Powerful Performance

“DAR HE: The Lynching of Emmett Till” is a one man show about the Civil Rights era murder of Emmett Till.  It was performed in our district for all 8th graders thanks to a Foundation Grant from teacher Jon Mall. “This powerful performance was an impactful experience that won’t be soon forgotten,” commented Mr. Mall.

A Magical Experience at Northwood

As part of Nancy Cohen’s Foundation Grant, Marisha Wallace, a member of the original Broadway cast of “Aladdin”, visited Northwood to lead a masterclass for performers of the Northwood production of “Aladdin Jr.” Ms. Wallace provided students with an “invaluable experience.”
